Volunteering
The MIT Office of the General Counsel and Risk Management & Compliance Services are proud to support and strengthen our local community through ongoing service initiatives in partnership with the MIT Community Service Fund (CSF) and other local organizations. Each year, OGC and RMCS attorneys and staff participate in projects that provide direct support to our Cambridge and Greater Boston neighbors, including:
Volunteering with Food For Free
In December, members of OGC and RMCS volunteered with Food For Free, helping to pack grocery boxes for the Just Eats program at the organization’s Somerville Packing and Distribution Center. Working in an assembly-line style, the setting was dynamic, fast, and physical—and a rewarding team experience. The grocery boxes packed by our volunteers were distributed by Food For Free trucks to food-insecure families and individuals through a network of partnerships with schools, housing sites, and community organizations across Greater Boston.
Secret Santa for Senior Collection
Every December, OGC and RMCS join the Institute-wide effort to support the Secret Santa for Seniors program. MIT partners with the Cambridge Police Department to provide donated gifts that are packaged into festive gift bags and delivered to local senior citizens living in public housing—many of whom may not have friends or family close by during the holidays.
Backpack Drive with East End House
During the summer, OGC and RMCS participated in CSF’s backpack drive in partnership with East End House, a longstanding Cambridge community organization. We donate and collect a wide range of essential school supplies—everything from notebooks, folders, and pens to art supplies and calculators. These items are assembled into fully stocked backpacks for each child East End House serves, helping ensure that local students are prepared and confident for the school year ahead.
Through these and other initiatives we remain committed to giving back to the communities that surround and support MIT.
