President Biden’s Executive Order on Artificial Intelligence: Relevant Takeaways for the MIT Community

Over the past six months, governments around the globe have begun to do more than discuss regulation of artificial intelligence (AI); they have move toward action.  Whether these actions will be fast enough—or apt enough—to keep up with the pace of innovation is yet to be seen.  The Office of the General Counsel (“OGC”) has prepared a summary of relevant takeaways for the MIT community from President Biden’s Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence (the “EO”), which was released on October 30, 2023.  This OGC alert focuses on elements of the EO that are most likely to be relevant to MIT researchers, administrators and our entrepreneurial community. The guidance can be accessed by using an MIT Certificate and can be found here.
